Good morning everyone,
It was great last week to see our school starting to return to some normality with staff members preparing classrooms and planning learning for our anticipated return in August. This has been a tricky week for all staff members as we learn to adapt the ways we work, taking into account the continuing restrictions on workplaces. Lots of work has been done by Mrs Wood in partnership with various colleagues from South Lanarkshire to carry out robust risk assessments across all areas of the school and we are now implementing plans to ensure that everyone is as safe as possible. In addition to this, there has been a lot of consideration and planning done to ensure that the transition to the next stage in your child's learning is as smooth as possible.
Health Week
Starting today, we would like to encourage as many children, families and staff members as possible to participate in our school and nursery health week. The daily plan is as follows;
Mascot Monday - Design a mascot to represent the school
Time Challenge Tuesday- How many of each exercise can you do in 1 minute?
Workout Wednesday- Complete a workout of your choice
Throw, Run and Jump Thursday- Have a go at a range of potted sports
Fruity Friday- Create a healthy snack.
We would love it if you could share as many photos as possible on our teams pages of your progress over the course of the week. The plan is to collect these experiences and showcase at a later date.
P1 Transition and P7 Farewell
On Thursday 18th we are looking forward to welcoming our nursery children as they prepare for their transition to Primary 1 in August. As well as meeting their new teacher, the visit will consist of a short tour around the school. Individual text messages have been sent to parents to confirm timings and, as Mrs Wood stated in her message last week, we ask that only one adult accompanies each child with entry through the canteen.
Furthermore, a reminder that Primary 7s are invited into the school on Monday 22nd June for a brief farewell and celebration of the amazing contribution they have made to our school. Unfortunately due to social distancing concerns, we are not able to invite parents. All pupils will receive their new school tie as well as a leaving gift from the school community.
School Surveys
Last week Mrs Wood sent messages to everyone regarding 2 surveys which were issued by South Lanarkshire Council. If you can spare the time, we would really appreciate your thoughts. The closing date is Monday 15th June.
South Lanarkshire Primary Pupil Survey
South Lanarkshire Parent/Carer Survey
Summer Reading Challenge
Another quick reminder that the Summer Reading Challenge, run by South Lanarkshire Leisure, has produced a website (www.sillysquad.org.uk) with lots of fun literacy activities to encourage children to keep reading over the summer holidays. A news story was posted on Wed 10th June with lots of links to SLC Libraries and more information on the activites.
As always if you need any support, please contact the school by phone and we will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as possible. Our Teams sites will continue to run until the end of term and we would encourage all of our pupils to keep participating in the activities set by teachers. It has been amazing to see the high standard of work that pupils are producing every day as well as the positive sharing of ideas on our posts pages.
Stay safe and take care,
Mr Thomson
