Every Wednesday morning in P6 we participate in a Countdown Challenge! It's just like the gameshow 'Countdown' however, many of the children hadn't seen the programme before so we had a great discussion first about how to play. Then they had the challenge of using the six numbers available and the four standard operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to hit the target!
We then discuss as a class about how we've managed to solve the problem and what strategy is most effective. This links in to the different strategies we use within our Number Talks! The children always have some fantastic strategies which helped them arrive at the target number! Miss Dalgliesh loves to play along too and it's great to compare strategies!
This is something we continue to practise and the problems get more and more challenging as we go!
The children have worked so incredibly hard over the past six weeks and I wish them a very happy and restful September weekend. I am always so proud of you, Miss Dalgliesh.
