This week we have been learning.......

The Red Pod
This week we have been learning about the season Autumn and in particular the leaves changing colour and falling from the trees. We made stained glass leaves using Autumn colours, we explored the schools grounds on an Autumn walk and found that the trees had different coloured leaves, some had fallen off and we collected them and made Autumn leaf kebabs at nursery. We explored natural resources that Debbie collected from the woods, pinecones and sticks to use with our Autumn themed playdough. We have spent time exploring the nursery garden, using the bikes to develop our gross motor skills, we have explored the loose parts too with curiosity.

The Yellow Pod
This week the yellow and gold pod have been exploring ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’  again, some of the boys and girls were able to recall events from the story and talk about how the characters went through each of the obstacles. We listened to an audio story and have been splashing through the river while reciting parts.

The Yellow/Gold Pod
On Monday and Tuesday the yellow/gold pod have been exploring all things Autumn. 🍁
On Monday we painted leaves and mixed paint and made Autumn colours which are displayed on our window. Please have a look when passing!
We have explored an Autumn sensory tray with pine cones, leaves and yellow split peas using scoops to fill, empty and pour.
On Tuesday we made red Autumn themed playdough, incorporating leaves, twigs and natural resources and looked at a few Autumn books in our reading corner. The children revisited the Autumn sensory tray as they had so much fun on the Monday!

The Purple Pod
Within the purple pod this week the children have been very busy exploring different textures, during this we have been extending and developing our use of descriptive language.
We started our week off using different materials to build a den, our blanket was shiny and soft, the elastic bands were stretchy.
We read a variety of feely books Including “ that’s not my monkey” which allowed us to use our fingers to feel different textures.
Using our creative skills we designed our “ I can feel” wall display, throughout this activity we had the opportunity to talk about words We can use to describe different materials
Our autumn tuff tray was full of crunchy, prickly and bumpy items including leaves, twigs and pine cones.

The Blue Pod
This week in the blue pod we have enjoyed exploring autumn. This was inspired by the children’s interest in the brown leaves lying around the school grounds and some of the children brought them into nursery. While out in the MUGA pitch the children gathered more leaves and we talked about the change in the weather. This has helped to extend the children vocabulary by introducing new words about autumn.
Using the leaves the children collected, they made sticky pictures, leave rubbings with crayons and a wall display.
We have also been introducing kind hands in the blue pod, to encourage the children to be kind to each other and looking at what makes a good friend.

The Green Pod
This week in the green pod we have been exploring the “Owl Babies” story, we have created paintings of our owl babies to recall the characters within the story. We wrote letters to the baby owls from mother owl to stop them being scared when they find mother is gone, we explored where mother owl was and how the babies felt when she returned. We used material to create our own owl baby puppets and used these to retell the story to our friends. We have been exploring autumn, identifying and discussing the different changes between summer and autumn and we spent time collecting leaves to examine and get creative with. We have also spent time out in the garden and muga enjoying some energetic play.

Have a lovely October break.
