Our learning...

The Red Pod
This week the red pod have been busy exploring their new environment and have displayed lots of engagement, curiosity and enjoyment!

At the start of the week Lianne did experiences all around the nursery rhyme “Miss Polly had a Dolly”. We recited the rhyme using a book, listened to the audio on the iPad, used role play resources to become the doctor and used print out sheets to colour, cut and sequence.
We have sorted dinosaurs by size, food and using our own criteria. We explored patterns using dinosaur stampers.
We spent time outdoors exploring the loose parts, using a bench to make a slide. We spent time using our new playdough station, using our recipe to mix our own playdough.
At the end of the week Eilidh has been exploring the importance of friendships and showing respect for others, we made our own friendship recipe by using words such as sharing, love and laughter and also using measurements such as spoonfuls and sprinkles, we are hoping to get our recipe printed out to refer to throughout our day. We made some friendship playdough and friendship bracelets using pasta, discussing who we would like to give our bracelet to and why they are a good friend.

Blue Pod
This has been an exciting week in the blue pod as it has been our first full week in the new area. As the children may have told you, we have moved our pod area in the nursery in line with government guildlines to ensure we are keeping our children as safe as possible. I will post some pictures of the new pod very soon.

Now for what the children have been doing this week.....
We finished our nursery rhyme week with Miss Polly had a Dolly and the children have decided they’d like to keep the doll in the pod in our home area. So we will be looking at some other stories and activities in the coming weeks with Miss Polly’s Dolly.
The children really enjoy playdough and asked for green playdough. We decided to look at mixing two coloured playdoughs to create another colour and created a chart that others could use when they want to know how to mix other colours. This has been a great activity that has continued all week and the children can be heard telling each other about it now the chart is on display.
The children have shown an interest in trajectory schema, learning about cause and effect. We are looking forward to exploring this further next week now we have introduced more pieces for them to explore with in the pod today.

Green Pod
This week in the green pod we started off the week exploring the nursery rhyme ‘Miss Polly had a dolly’, where we participated in reciting the rhyme and took part in role playing the doctor to look after our sick baby. We developed our awareness that we can use writing to convey a message creating get well cards for the sick baby. This lead on to us identifying what needs a baby has and developing our awareness of the tasks required to look after a baby. Our role play this week has involved a variety of jobs people do including doctor, teacher and then moved on to hair dressers and dog groomers where we used available resources to create a salon for both people and dogs. We used these role play experiences to further develop our awareness on using writing to convey messages including appointment books and leaflets to promote the salon. The salon also gave us an opportunity to develop our understanding of the purpose of money.

We have also been exploring our loose parts and block play as well as getting creative with the K’Nex in our tuff tray to create a variety of objects and structures. Whilst taking part in daily opportunities in energetic outdoor play in the nursery garden and muga pitch.

The Yellow Pod
This week we have been learning to sign ‘friends’ in Makaton. We have also been working hard on our Christmas Makaton song ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’. The children have been keen to talk about the changing of the seasons with Winter approaching. There has been lots of interest in threading different shapes of beads onto string. Our fine motor skills are improving! We also built a den and used torches to create shadows. Our imaginative play this week has been focused on pets and the vets.

The Purple Pod
This week the purple pod have been using various resources to make models and creations.
We made houses and rockets with Lego. Aliens and castles with the stickle bricks and cars, ladders and flowers with mobilo.
This really challenged our fine motor and problem solving skills and brought out our very creative sides.
Alongside this the children have also started to show an interest in the Lion Guard, to support and extend this we have recreated pride rock, and are exploring the different animals within it. We have selected a range desert animals books for our story we are particularly enjoying “Rumble in the jungle”

Have a lovely weekend.
