This weeks learning.....

The Red Pod
This week the red pod have been participating in experiences all about Scotland to celebrate "St Andrews Day"!
We explored lots of Scottish memrobilia including thistles, tartan, the Saltire, Scottish music and books with Scottish words. We made tartan kilts by weaving paper, used collage materials to create Scottish flags, listened to the bagpipes on the iPad and danced to Scottish music!
We have been learning to use technology. We sent an email invitation to the purple, blue and yellow pods, inviting them to join us on a video call using Microsoft teams, we planned to perform our Christmas makaton song, we also used the iPad to video each other performing our makaton song. We then used the nursery computer to send our video to the other pods.
At the end of the week we have been using our imagination and problem solving skills to construct models, we started by using the wooden blocks to make some cages for the dinosaurs which progressed onto other animals, we explored the internet to see what the enclosures at the zoo looked like to give us some ideas before drawing our own plans and extending our building, we also had a look at the live zoo webcams and we're lucky enough to see the  panda at Edinburgh zoo. We have also explored a range of building materials such as the sticklebrick and lego, discussing our ideas as we use our imagination to build different things.
The red pod also spent some time exploring the snow, they enjoyed having a socially distanced snowball fight with the purple pod from opposite sides of the garden and had a competition to see who could throw their snowball the highest against the wall.

The Purple Pod
The boys and girls in the purple pod have had another very busy week of learning.
This week our learning opportunities have centred around following instructions,
In the garden and muga we played group games where we had to listen carefully as Lynn explained the rules
of each game, we particularly enjoyed the Loch Ness Monster game.
We followed a picture recipe to independently make our own playdough, we think ours turned out better than Lynn’s.

The Yellow/Gold Pod
This week it has been Scottish week in the nursery. The children have been looking at different tartan and talking about which ones that they like best. They have been making a St Andrew’s flag and tartan paper chains. The children enjoyed hearing the story ‘We are ganing on a bear hunt’ which had been translated into Scots language.
In our nursery garden we have built up the climbing frame and they have been learning to balance and climb independently.
We have also been preparing our Makaton signs for Christmas. This week we have learned to sign snowman and Christmas tree. The children have enjoyed playing with torches in our tent and they have been having sleepovers with their friends. We have been reading the 3 Little Pigs story.

The Blue Pod
This week in the blue pod we have been very busy introducing Christmas! The children have all been very keen to get involved and get the glitter out. We made our very own fire place, and hung our individually decorated stockings along the top. We painted a Christmas tree on our window and used tinsel and baubles to decorate it. We still have our star from the top to make and decorate, we have been so so busy!

We couldn’t believe that the snow had came to forth today. We were all so eager to get out and play, we all had our warm winter clothes which made it more fun as we could stay out for longer. After all our chat about the snow we decided we would make some snowflakes. We folded up paper and cut out our own shapes and patterns. We decorated them with glitter and pens and paper.

We’ve also enjoyed a little boogie to some Christmas music!

Have a lovely weekend
