This is what the nursery children have been playing with, learning about and exploring in the following areas:

Literacy: we have been exploring dinosaurs, learning different names and sounding out the pronunciation. We have created and designed our own dinosaurs and discussed the role of a palaeontologist.

Math/STEM: We have explored 2D shapes and measurement. We created pictures of dinosaurs using 2D shapes and also drew our own and measured them. We practised identifying, sorting and matching our 2D shapes.

Construction/Small world: We used our imagination and created a dinosaur island using a variety of construction materials. We explored new vocabulary, learning dinosaur names and we investigated the role of a palaeontologist, where we created our own dinosaur fossils using dinosaur skeletons and play dough. We used a variety of small tools to crack open our frozen dinosaur eggs, developing our fine motor skills.

Outdoors: We have explored soapy bubbles in the mud kitchen using this to clean and splash, comparing how far and high we could throw it. We used planks of wood to create Minecraft bridges and castles using our imagination and working together to build and assess risk.

Don’t forget to check your child’s learning journals for some more insights into their learning in nursery.

If you managed to make it along to our nursery Stay and Play sessions last week, we would really appreciate if you could fill out our short 2 minute survey by clicking the link below.
