The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark

After reading chapter 4, Dark is Necessary, the boys and girls discussed what necessary meant and then we decided to make our playdough.  We picked black for dark and red for christmas, as it expresssed the importance of dark for Father Christmas visiting.  We worked really well in small groups and added almond extract to our playdough, giving it a smell that linked to christmas cake.  The playdough was " hot and satisfying ", " calming and silky " and  " very relaxing-just like reading ".
