This term Primary 1/2 have lots of exciting learning to look forward to!

Science
Our new science topic is materials. We have already started to explore a variety of materials and have even begun to look at the difference between man-made and natural materials. We have also looked at water, and how it can change from a solid, to a liquid and to a gas. To find out more, ask your child:

Can you tell me some materials that are man-made?
What about natural?
Where does wool come from?
What happens when we put water in the freezer?
What about a kettle?

Social Studies
Over the next few weeks Primary 1/2 will begin to explore the topic of People Who Help Us. We will look at a variety of people in our local and wider community who help us in both day to day life or in emergency situation. To prepare for our learning you could ask you child:

Who helps you everyday?
Who would you ask for help if you were lost?
What would you do in an emergency?

Health and Wellbeing
This term, emotional literacy and wellbeing will continue to be an important aspect of learning. During PE we will be learning to use and control our bodies in team games and athletics. We will also spend some time focusing on Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood in line with the current curriculum framework. This will involve discussing what makes people unique and how to keep ourselves safe, clean and healthy. To prepare for our learning you could ask your child:

What makes you unique?
What makes people different?
How do we keep ourselves healthy?

Literacy and Maths
In Literacy, we will continue to practise and develop our skills in reading, writing and listening and talking. Primary 1/2 will also continue to practise and develop our number and mathematical skills. We will be using Information Handling alongside our Health and Wellbeing topic to record the various thing about us that make us unique!

Primary 1/2 have been complete superstars since returning to school and I can't wait to see what else we get up to over the next few months.

If you have any questions regarding your child's learning for this term, please do not hestitate to get in touch.
