This week in Nursery we have been learning.......

The Red Pod
This week we have been reading the story of Room on the Broom and retelling the story using props. We have made up our own spell and mixed different ingredients in our cauldron to make a magic potion. We have been celebrating Halloween with a variety of experiences and experiments. We made a magic potion using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to inflate a balloon without using our breath. We have written a spell book with the following magic words: iggety, ziggety, zaggety, alakazam, zoom, we used this to mix our own potion using a bath bomb, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, we added the Internet to our cauldron using syringes.  We spent time outdoors riding bikes and using loose parts to make a slide and balancing area.


The Purple Pod
This week the purple group have been having a spooktacular time celebrating all things Halloween 🎃 
We have spent time pouring and filling Our spooky Halloween buckets with Halloween coloured lentils, 
Our story corner is full of Halloween themed books our favourite has been “silly monster” 
We used playdough to create monsters. 
Lynn is participating in makaton training and has taught us a little Halloween poem about a little ghost 👻 hope you enjoy it.


The Blue Pod
This week in the blue pod it has been super busy with lots of spooky things happening for Halloween 🎃 the children have enjoyed some spooky songs and stories on the iPad. We have decorated the pod with some spiders and webs too. We made ghosts, skeletons and superhero’s for art activities. We were learning about shapes, problem solving to make models, while continuing to develop our fine motor skills. 
I’m sure the children enjoyed telling you about the slime in the tray and using the tweezers to catch spiders from it 🕷 all of the children enjoyed this activity and have asked for it again another day.


The Green Pod
This week in the green pod we have been having lots of fun exploring Halloween. We have been reading and exploring the story “Room on the broom” and also watched an animated version to explore different media. We have used what we have learned to retell and recall the sequence of events in the story, creating magic potions and spells, to ensure we looked the part we created our own very tall witches hat. This week we have also explored carving pumpkins, making Halloween coloured playdough adding pumpkin seeds to explore the texture and investiagted slime. Our water tray has also taken on Halloween colours this week where some creepy crawlies have taken up residence, we have been using tweezers to fish these out. Also this week we have added some new resources to the pod including a car garage which the children have all enjoyed playing with this.


The Yellow Pod
On Monday and Tuesday the yellow pod have been taking part in food based Halloween activities 🎃 
We have explored the spaghetti sensory tray with spiders and shaped pasta using tongs, spoons and tubs. We used apples to print pumpkin pictures and used their hands to squash, squeeze and feel the pumpkin sensory bags! 
Also this week we have used knives to cut, slice and prepare apples and pears 🍐 which we then tasted for snack!
