This week we have been learning........

This week in the red pod we have been learning about Remembrance Day, Diwali and Children in Need. 
At the beginning of the week we made poppies using red paint and coffee granules for the seeds, we also painted a field of poppies on our window. We explored a real soldiers uniform, including a helmet, ration pack and medals. We watched a Poppy story on the C-touch and discussed the meaning of the characters in the animation. We learned new Makaton signs for Soldier, Poppy and Remember. We participated in the two minute silence where we watched the Poppy Story again.
On Thursday we learned a little about the Hindu celebration called Diwali the festival of light, we made Diya candles and watched how a family celebrates this on a CBeebies video. On Friday we learned about Children in Need, we helped Pudsey find his spots, made our own Pudsey mask and watched information about Pudsey on the C-touch.
This week the purple pod have been exploring important events and celebrations in people’s lives. At the beginning of the week we learned about Remembrance Day we done this by using various craft materials to make poppies. We learned the makaton signs for Poppy, Solider, Remember and to fight . We also had the opportunity to explore a real Solider’s uniform, medals helmet and ration pack On Wednesday At 11am we watched the CBeebies 2 min silent cartoon ‘Poppies’. We all tried our very best to say quite during the cartoon to remember the soliders who taught in the wars. 
On Thursday we learned about Diwali the festival of light which is celebrated in some cultures, we made our own colourful lights to take home, we also learned how to sign Diwali in Makaton. 
On Friday we celebrated Children in Need, we explored Pudsey Bear shaving foam and learned how to sign yellow bear in makaton. We discussed what Children in need is for and why people chose to raise money for the cause.


The yellow pod have been extremely busy this week exploring Diwali. They have been developing their understanding of other beliefs and values through fun creations of Rangoli patterns using a range of media. 
They used colourful collage materials to make beautiful patterned plates and used coloured pens to draw rangoli patterns, shapes, objects and colour onto Diwali lanterns. In the sensory tray the children scooped, filled, poured and emptied colourful rice using lots of mathematical language e.g full, empty. We also learned the makaton sign for Diwali!


This week in the yellow and gold pod we have been learning about rememberance day, we spent some time making Poppy’s with red and green play dough while discussing what remeberance day is all about, we then watched a short video on the iPad while taking part in the two minute silence. The boys and girls have really shown an interest in learning the makaton signs ask them if they can remember how to do sign soldier and poppy. As it is children in need at the end of the week we are going to learn the sign for pudsy bear and blush bear, we will also be taking part in some colour by number.


This week in the green pod have been exploring important events and certain celebrations. We started the week off with Remembrance Day using various craft materials to make different types of poppy pictures. Thanks to Lynn in the purple pod we had the opportunity to explore a Solider’s uniform, including helmet, medals and ration pack. To mark the 2 minutes silence at 11am on Wednesday we watched ‘Poppies’ an animated video on CBeebies. We also learned the makaton sign for solider. On Thursday we watched some video’s to explain and explore Diwali which is also called ‘the festival of light’, we used a variety of craft materials to create our own candles. On Friday we celebrated Children in Need, we created various ’Pudsey Bear’ pictures using a variety of media and discussed what Children in need is for and why people support this cause.


This week has been so fast and we have been busier than ever. The Blue group have been learning all about Remembrance Day using the iPad to look on the internet for information. They made poppies using halved apples to print with red paint, they’ve used different materials to make poppy models and they even made poppies using red playdough. We watched a silent cartoon on CBeebies called Poppies that shows war experienced by animals in a WW1 battlefield. The children watched this during the 2 minutes silence.
On Thursday the children enjoyed a short movie about Diwali on the iPad. They then used clay to make Diya these are Candle holders used during Diwali.
