This is what the nursery children have been playing with, learning about and exploring in the following areas:
Literacy: We have been developing our letter recognition and formation using Chinese New Year words to apply to our learning. We used the c-touch for letter formation activity, tracing familiar letters, using our knowledge to identify and develop our awareness of letters.
Math/STEM: We have explored and used different technology to describe position and direction. We learned how to programme and move the Bee-Bot around the map and played different coding games on the iPad.
Creative: We have explored and learned about Chinese New Year, making dragon masks, watching dragon dances and explored noodles. We practiced our scissor control, cutting a variety of different materials following lines and shapes.
Outdoors: The children created delicious meals in the mud kitchen linking to Chinese New Year, using their imagination with rice, noodles and curry.
Role play: We explored Chinese New Year, our home corner was transformed into a Chinese restaurant, where we used our imagination and explored rice and noodles. We tasted prawn crackers and discussed our personal experiences of Chinese food.
Construction/Small world: We explored animals and their habitats. We looked at live animal zoo feeds and then recreated their homes using our blocks and bricks.
Snack: We have established a new snack routine with the children. We introduced snack helps, who have the opportunity to develop a variety of skills; chopping fruit, collecting milk, setting both the snacktable and the lunch tables with our new table cloths, and learning to take the dirty tables cloths to the washing machine afterwards.
Don’t forget to check your child’s learning journals for some more insights into their learning.
Have a lovely weekend
